Award of Hope Celebration

Some people walk into your life during the worst days imaginable and somehow become part of your story forever. 💙💚

Nearly two years ago, we met people we wish we had never needed to meet.

But today, we are so thankful we did.

Cameron’s nurse took incredible care of not only him, but our entire family during our stay at UW. She guided us through some of the hardest moments of our lives, including Cameron’s honor walk and the day he gave his gifts through organ donation.

The other woman in these photos is part of the UW Organ and Tissue Donation team. She walked alongside us throughout Cameron’s donation journey and has remained a part of our lives ever since.

Recently, Jonathan and I had the honor of sharing Cameron’s story at the Award of Hope Celebration.

Hosted by the UW Organ and Tissue Donation team, this event brings together hospital teams, nurses, physicians, donation coordinators, and professionals from across the country who dedicate their lives to caring for donor families and helping save lives through donation.

Knowing how much Cameron’s nurse means to our family, our friend from the donation team reached out and invited her to join us for the event.

We were also grateful to have Cameron’s stepmom with us that evening. Through our shared love for him, we’ve formed a special friendship and were honored to experience this meaningful event together💙

As we stood in that room, we realized some of the people who had cared for Cameron, supported our family, and helped carry out his final gifts were there.

It was emotional, humbling, and incredibly meaningful.

People often think the relationships formed in a hospital end when you walk out the doors.

Sometimes they don’t.

Sometimes the people who help carry you through the darkest days of your life become part of your story forever.

To everyone who cared for Cameron, cared for our family, and continues to care for donor families every day…thank you.

Because of you, Cameron’s legacy continues to live on. 💙💚
